Calexico - “Seasonal Shift” (December 4, 2020)

This album has the perfect vibe for the holidays. It is smooth and mellow and features a ton of holiday songs you love and some you may not have heard before.

By Matt Davis

This album is a holiday album that doesn’t feel like a Christmas album. It features wonderful classic tunes written by titans like John Lennon, Tom Petty and more. This album also features a Latin classic, “Mi Burrito Sabanero”. It’s like a great Calexico album with a tinge of holiday spirit.

When you listen to this album you feel the melding of the culture of the American southwest, but with a hint of holiday themes. It’s a holiday album for people who 1) love Calexico and 2) do not want to be slapped upside the head with candy canes and Christmas trees. That said it is definitely not so ambiguous of a holiday album that you are unaware it is one.

This album is a refreshing break from the infinite number of pop soaked Christmas playlists that everyone has on repeat. I suggest you put it on during your holiday non-gatherings and keep listening into the new year. I know this will continue to be a holiday classic in my home.
