Andrew Bird - “Hark!” (October 30, 2020)

Andrew Bird takes us on a magical sleigh ride with HARK!

By Steve Forrest

Most Christmas albums are only really appropriate in the months of November/December but Andrew Bird’s latest release HARK! is certainly the exception. This album could just as easily be enjoyed on a cross country road trip, as it could be sitting next to a roasting fire on Christmas Eve.

The dry, woody tone of this album makes it soft and warm to the touch, and the effortless beauty in Bird’s vocals/whistles makes HARK! a very difficult record NOT to enjoy. Taking a few choice holiday favourites, some tasty originals, and a healthy dose of creativity, Bird has delivered a symphony of delicate morales both delectable and easy to digest.

This record has a very nostalgic feeling to it, much like the early workings of the infamous Roger Miller and is a definite must have for not only the holiday season, but all year round.

Andrew Bird’s HARK! has not disappointed, and hopefully will continue to be cherished as a holiday favourite for many years to come.
